The December issue of the journal CHOICE features MCC professor Steve Young’s article, “Four Hundred Years Later: The Bible Isn't What It Used to Be.” CHOICE, published by the American Library Association, is the premiere review journal for librarians at academic institutions. Professor Young began writing reviews for CHOICE five years ago. The idea for the article came to Dr. Young over a year ago. “I was thinking about the significance of the 2011 being the 400th anniversary of the King James translation of the Bible, and thought it would be a good occasion for librarians to assess the place of the Bible in their collections. I pitched the idea to my editor, and after an editorial meeting, it was approved, and assigned to me,” says Young. “I spent several months researching and reviewing academically-oriented Bibles, and ended up citing over sixty works,” including different translations, study Bibles, original language texts and closely related primary texts.
